A 3D Object is a 3D volume within the program with variable dimensions and elevation, onto which we can apply a material or a tiling pattern.
This function in DomuS3D allows you to easily recreate simple furnishing elements, for example open-shelving cabinets, drop-in bathtubs or sinks, all starting from simple 3D parallelepipeds.
To create a niche, which we can also call a cut-out, in a 3D object, you can apply the logic of volume subtraction by intersecting solids.
Steps to create a niche:
1. Create the 3D shape: From the floor plan window, use the CAD tools (learn more in this article) or the DRAW command in the LAYOUT section of the Ribbon. Choose CUBE.
2. Create the first volume: Create the larger 3D object (the base object).
3. Create the second volume: Create a second smaller 3D object that represents the volume that you want to subtract from the large 3D object (the "niche")
4. Select Flip normals: Select the Flip Normals option in the object creation window to set up the subtraction operation.
You can also find this option in the object's properties menu by right-clicking on the object and selecting Properties > FLIP NORMALS
5. Positioning the object: Insert the second volume inside the first one, completely overlapping it. Align the two objects so that their surfaces are aligned (there two surfaces must be coplanar).
You can use the Move > Point + Delta function to achieve precise alignment.

Drilling Top Surfaces: When drilling the top surface of a 3D object, such as a tub, a countertop with a sink, or a pool, it is essential to set the elevation and height measurements of the objects correctly. For example, if the volume to be subtracted has a height of 50 cm and the volume from which to subtract has a height of 60 cm, position the subtracting volume at an elevation of 10 cm. This will ensure perfect coplanarity with the upper surface of the object to be drilled.

Tiling the inside of a niche: To tile the inside of a niche, simply drag the materials (COMPONENTS > MATERIALS) directly in the navigation window.
- Display issues: If the hole you created is not visible in the virtual navigation window, try reloading the view using the command in the Ribbon NAVIGATION > UPDATE VIEW.
