To draw a floor plan that includes curved walls, you have two options:
- Select the Draw Polyline command if you are creating a new floorplan.
- Use the Polyline command from the CAD menu in the Ribbon if you are working on an existing project and want to create a second floor plan.
Using the Draw Polyline command:
- In the New Project window, select the Draw Plan option and click OK.
- Start by drawing the linear walls of the floorplan in your workspace. Leave the side where the curve will be created for last; always remember to draw your room in a clockwise direction. This will make it easier to draw the wall that will contain the curve since you won’t have to calculate the angle and the length of the diagonal but only connect the last point with the first one traced.
- Close the room by clicking on your initial point or right click -> Close room.
- Once your room is closed, right click on the wall you want to become curved. Select the option Curved wall -> Create Arc -> Internal/External depending on which side you want the curve to be on.
- Right-click on the curved wall to modify the curvature radius. Select the option Curved wall -> Radius, and enter the desired dimension, then press OK
Using the Polyline Tracing command:
- If, on the other hand, you want to create a second layout in an already open project, you can launch the Polyline command from the CAD menu.
- Start by drawing the straight walls of your room.
- Save the side where you want to create the curve for last, and always remember to draw the room in a clockwise direction. This will make it easier to draw the wall that will contain the curve, as you won't need to calculate the angle or the length of the diagonal; you simply connect the last point to the first one.
- Close the room by clicking on the starting point or by right-clicking and selecting Close.
Once the room is closed, right-click on the wall you want to curve. Select the Curved Wall option, then Create Arc, and choose Interior/Exterior depending on the direction you want the curve to face.
- Right-click on the curved wall to modify the curvature radius. Select the Curved Wall option, then Radius. Enter the desired dimension, and press OK.
Using the Arc command:
- In the project's empty workspace, select the Polyline command from the CAD Ribbon.
Begin by drawing the linear walls of the floor plan, saving the section where you want to create the curved wall for last. Leave the Polyline open.
- Click on the Arc command from the CAD Ribbon and select Point-Point Radius. Click on one of the two end points of the arch, then click on the other point you want to connect. Then it will let you select the radius of curvature. Once done, right-click to end the command.
- Using this command, the outline of your room has been created.
- The final step is to transform this outline into a recognizable “room” within the project. This can be done using the Room from selection command in the CAD menu. When selecting, be sure to include all geometric elements (i.e. all lines/curves of the room outline) in the selection area (for example, by clicking on point A and keeping the left mouse button pressed down until point B, letting go when the entire area is highlighted).
- Since it is possible to make several selections consecutively, the “Room by selection” command must be brought to an end by using the “Enter” key or by right-clicking. If all of the entities in the selected area are consistent in delineating a closed area, this will confirm your selection and create your room, represented graphically by automatically generating wall thickness.
