INTRODUCTION AND GENERAL PREAMBLE
To allow you to modify or create Layout plans more easily and directly, a new environment called Advanced Layout Plan Editing (AFE) has been developed, replacing the previous Trace Rooms command.
found in the ribbon bar (for information on how to access it, read this article - How to enter Advanced Layout Plan Editing mode.
Within this environment, you can trace the outlines of your room using lines or polylines, modify its shape or, if you wish, delete rooms that are already present. Each time you enter the environment and make any changes, the programme recreates the Layout plan from scratch and fully rebuilds the walls while still preserving the coverings and fixtures inserted.
Room heights and sloping ceilings: in Domus3D 2026 R1, switching to Advanced LayoutPlan Editing would result in the removal of any sloping ceiling present. With this new release, when you enter the AFE environment, the programme detects the presence of a slope and notifies you with a specific message.
After confirming the operation and making changes to the room, upon returning to Standard Plan view, the programme, following the recalculation of the walls, attempts to reapply the slope and, if successful, alerts you to check it again to ensure it is still the desired one.
In the case of very complex sloping ceilings, it is possible that Domus3D may not be able to maintain the slope; consequently, after displaying a message, it resets the ceiling to flat but still retains the wall coverings so that you do not lose all the information.
In the case of multi-room layouts where the slope is present only in some rooms, if those rooms are not modified in Advanced Editing, the slope is maintained when switching back to Standard Plan view.
TYPES OF VIEW AND HOW TO ENTER THE COMMAND
From the floor plan window, you have THREE types of view available:
- The traditional “Plan” view, which you are already familiar with from previous versions, and which starts automatically when opening a project.
- The “Ceiling” view, which you should access whenever you want to customise the different heights of the sloping ceiling: this view does not include furniture representation (which would cause confusion when working at the ceiling/roof level). Click here if you want to learn more.
- The “Advanced Layout Plan Editing” view, which allows you to make changes to the Layout plan more easily by modifying the outlines of existing rooms or drawing new lines to define new spaces.
At the top left of the Layout plan window, the type of active view is always indicated (Plan / Ceiling / Advanced Layout Plan Editing), while at the top right there is a toolbar with two buttons:
the left button indicates the Standard Plan, the right one the Advanced Layout Plan Editing. The icon highlighted in blue indicates the currently active view.
